The Admiration that I have for Tonya is beyond words ! To be able to go through everything that you have been through‚ It takes an amazing amount of courage and a very strong will to come out on Top! I think that is exactly what she has done‚ come out on Top ! To really show us how cruel this world can be and to be able to walk right through it is amazing !! I’ve attempted to contact you a couple of times in the past to see if I could arrange for you to see a Loudon Wainwright show but haven’t heard from you. Loudon is a great singer–songwriter who wrote a song called "Tonya’s Twirls" that comments on the corruption of sports. I’ve spoken with Loudon about this and he said he’d be interested in meeting you and/or having you see his show. I know that it could be awkward for an occasionally controversial celebrity to attend a small folk music show‚ but if you would be interested I’d love to facilitate that in any way I can. He usually comes to the Pacific Northwest when he tours so you could probably catch him at Portland or Seattle. If you were interested in attending‚ I’d be willing to hire a limo for you.
Hi Tonya‚ hope you are doing well. Just wanted to drop you a quick note to tell you not to listen to these negative people. I doubt any of them ever felt the pressure of competition the way you have. They are just lazy do–nothings so bored with their own lives that they have to find someone to try to tear down. You have a true warriors spirit and I guess that bothers weak people. Tonya: I was NEVER much of a Figure Skating guy‚ but watching you skate while you were growing up was like watching an Angel floating among the clouds. The Grace and Ease that was you on the ice was a Total Joy to watch !!! I grew up playing ice hockey with the Hull boys. My career was ended with a freak accident. (a puck shattered my knee). After total knee re–construction and being in a cast for 8 months‚ it was NEVER the same. Life went on and I found another way to make a living. Ice Hockey was my LIFE!!! But‚ Life went on and I made the best of it. I think I can understand what you have felt and are STILL feeling. Life can throw us a curve every now and then. We just have to make the best of a BAD situation and go on… I wish you the BEST of LUCK in whatever you choose to do. If you ever make it to Washington….. It would be an HONOR to skate with you !!!! Tonya Harding‚ next to Linda Fratianne‚ was one of the most outstanding skaters in the sport of figure skating. They were both robbed– Linda of the gold medal in 1980 and Tonya the 1991 world title. I used to skate with Linda and the only person I ever saw do as good a triple Sachow was Tonya. I believe that she was robbed most of her career and one of the biggest robberies was when she first skated and was third at the Nationals and denied a berth on the World Team. She should have gone to Worlds that year. Her 1991 skating performance was superb. She did just magnificent triple flips as well as very high triple Lutz jumps. I am so sorry that the public never got to see her as a professional. She could have left in 1991 and she would have been able to skate professionally but I think it is because people did not like her personality. What Tonya did was wrong but all kinds of things like that happen in skating and sports; people try to psych you out. I wish she could coach because I think she would make a good teacher‚ maybe at the ISI level and not USFSA because she can’t. Thanks for this web site. I think that having to read such bizarre comments would be really tough for her but she is a very strong person.
